Who are Social Firms Wales?

Social Firms Wales is the National Development Agency for Social Firms in Wales. Social Firms are a particular model of Social Enterprise that prioritise employment, training and volunteering opportunities for people who traditionally face prejudice and barriers to work. Social Firms have commercial viability at their heart, ensuring a robust trading model that is able to support their core social mission.

Our Network

We are a membership organisation with currently 160 Social Firm members across Wales providing a rich and diverse network of inclusive work opportunities across Wales. Information about our free membership and how to register can be found here.

We provide business advice and support to anyone in Wales who wants to develop a Social Firm to create inclusive employment and pathways to work for under-served and under-represented communities including:

✓ Neurodivergent & Autistic People
✓ Young People not in Employment, Education or Training

✓ People at risk of homelessness
✓ People with experience of substance abuse
✓ Ex-Offenders
✓ People facing multiple barriers to employment

Business Start-up Advice

Social Firms Wales also provides specialist Business start-up advice and support to disabled and under-represented entrepreneurs that want to pursue Self-Employment but may face a range of barriers to accessing mainstream business support.

Services...

Social Firms Wales offers tailored and specialist Business Advice, Mentoring and Support for Social Firm Development and for Disabled and under-represented Entrepreneurs who want to start their own business.

We also offer a range of training and events for our members and associates in relevant business topics to help boost the commercial and entrepreneurial skills of our members and clients.

Thirdly we have developed a range of training programmes to help build capacity within the sector, particularly around Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in the Workplace, and Good Governance Practice for the Social Enterprise sector. Membership...

Social Firms Wales has a free membership with 160 current member organisations including established and developing social firms, social entrepreneurs and others that support our work. Click here to see our full directory of members. You can either become a full Social Firm member, or an Associate Social Firm member depending on your structure and the work you deliver. The membership is a vibrant group of social entrepreneurs many who have lived experience of disability or other forms of social exclusion. Being a member has many advantages such as :

• Access to networking opportunities
• Receiving our regular newsletter
• Use of the Social Firms Logo for full members

Training...

We are delighted to provide our members and clients with a programme of high quality training webinars which are free to attend. Topics focus on boosting the business skills and confidence of our entrepreneurs, and include topics such as ‘Connect and Engage through Linkedin’, ‘Collaborating creatively with Miro’, ‘Applying for Access to Work’, and ‘Managing Neurodiverse teams’.

We work with our members to identify training needs and build a programme around member priorities. We also try to use trainers with lived experience from our own networks as much as we can.
