Meet Lisa Turner

Lisa Turner is the founder of Trails, Bales and Snails, an online resource and events platform helping children and families reconnect with nature.

Based in the Vale of Glamorgan, Lisa works extensively across South and West Wales creating opportunities for children to enjoy the natural world.

Ideas for Outdoor Adventure

Trails, Bales and Snails provides ideas, inspiration and practical support to help children spend more time outdoors enjoying and connecting with nature.

The organisation creates treasure hunts and family trail events in nature-rich locations that are easy to access, helping families discover new outdoor experiences together.

Why Trails, Bales and Snails Was Created

As a parent with an urban background, Lisa found it surprisingly difficult to access ideas and opportunities for nature play.

Trails, Bales and Snails was created to provide resources for parents wanting their children to spend more time outdoors and to rediscover traditional games and activities that previous generations enjoyed.

The aim is simple: ensure every child has the opportunity to connect with nature and discover activities they love.

Creating Impact

Parents report that encouraging nature play helps reduce screen dependency while improving children's wellbeing and mental health.

Children also develop practical skills, confidence and a deeper understanding of the world around them.

Recent Success

Lisa's first public Easter Egg Hunt in Penarth attracted fantastic support and positive feedback from families.

She is now developing a new summer hunt event designed to travel to different venues across Wales.

Volunteer Week Message

Trails, Bales & Snails would like to wish everyone volunteering across Wales a very Happy Volunteers Week.

The organisation is always interested in speaking with potential volunteers about their interests, motivations and aspirations, and exploring how volunteering can be rewarding for everyone involved.

Playing in and with nature is a fantastic way to tackle screen addiction and mental health issues in children and young people. It’s also REALLY fun. As a child I thought it was something other children did. Now I’m working to ensure ALL children can find their way to it and discover activities they love. – Lisa Turner
