Alive with Chronic Illness

The “Alive with Chronic Illness” project was launched in 2024 by Elizabeth Curtis.

The project explores what it means to live with chronic illness and disability — not in spite of it.

Changing the Narrative

“There is no one guidebook to living with chronic illness.”

The project challenges conversations that focus only on what people can achieve “despite” disability, instead encouraging honest conversations about living well alongside chronic illness.

Podcast Conversations

The “Living With” podcast series shares real experiences from people living with a wide range of chronic health conditions.

Contributors from around the world discuss disability, diagnosis, healthcare, work, recovery and everyday life.

Living with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome

Teacher Brian Reeve-Hayes joins the podcast to share his experiences of living, working and parenting with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.

The discussion explores diagnosis pathways, NHS and private care, and balancing healthcare with work and family life.

Access the podcast series here.

Kait: Living with Miserable Malalignment Syndrome

Occupational therapist Kait shares her experience of living with Miserable Malalignment Syndrome and how it has impacted her career and wellbeing.

The conversation explores pain, recovery, surgery and the challenges of living with long-term conditions.

Access the podcast series here.

Open and Honest Conversations

Alive with Chronic Illness believes that open and honest conversations can help change the narrative around disability.

The growing collection of podcast stories highlights not only how people live with chronic illness, but how they continue to live well.
