A Retail Training Space with Purpose

Hubbub, a registered charity in the heart of Penarth, is a retail training space for young people with additional learning needs.

Both current and past pupils of Ysgol y Deri gain valuable, transferable employability skills through Hubbub work placements.

Hubbub Penarth is a social-enterprise shop created by Ysgol Y Deri to offer real retail work experience to young people with additional learning needs.

Located in the heart of Penarth, the shop blends sustainability, community spirit and inclusive training opportunities.

Hubbub sells pre-loved clothing and homeware alongside products from local makers, but the heart of the project lies behind the counter.

Pupils and former pupils from Ysgol Y Deri help run the store — greeting customers, preparing stock and creating displays.

Supporting Young People to Thrive

For many, Hubbub offers a rare chance to access meaningful work experience in a supportive environment.

The idea grew from a clear need: too few young people with additional learning needs are able to move into paid employment after leaving school.

Hubbub provides a stepping stone into the world of work.

Building Skills, Building Futures

The shop, launched in October 2025, has already become a busy and positive presence in the town centre.

Learners gain practical skills and meaningful experience that help bridge the gap between education and future employment.
